They do it accidentally, so get a heavy bowl.

But sometimes, it does it with purpose.

The one I have, when it got spoiled, grabbed his bowl and threw it down from cage 3rd floor and emptied the contents of the bowl when it wanted a treat. I got extremely pissed and did not give it anything until it ate up the food that lay on the floor. Now it's not spoiled anymore... LOL

NO. they can only eat chinchilla food if you feed them anything like meat sunflower seeds raisins so on it will kill them if you read anything about feeding your chinchillas treats it is not good for them and will kill them please do not feed them anything other then chinchilla food and chinchilla treats if its not made for chinchillas it will kill them. also use chinchilla sand not dust sand is very bad for them. anything with sugar in it can kill your chinchilla and will over time they live 10-20 years but if you feed them to many treats they will not live long at all.

What is everything a chinchila needs to survive?

A pet chinchilla dosent need much to survive, but to live a good mental and physical life, they do need more stuff. A chinchilla will need the basics: a good sized cage that they can not escape, a ferret cage is good, a water bottle, a food dish, and chinchilla food. Also they will need bedding for the bottom of the cage, wood chews to keep their teeth short, a dusting house and bath dust to keep themselves clean, and an igloo or somewhere for them to hide. All of those things can be found at a pet store

What is the best chinchilla food?

A commercially prepared diet will give your chinchilla most of what it needs. They also need hay, for fibre. Though they don't 'need' treats, they will appreaciate things like raisins, apples, orange slices, and other fruits. I have a attached a link to some chinchilla food products from www.bigalsonline.com
