Worms and parasites are usually the number one reason. I would take a fresh sample of your dog's stool to your vet for a fecal flotation test. They will be able to tell quickly and easily if there is an infestation. It can usually be treated with a round of an oral medication. It can be very serious, and you should definitely talk to your vet ASAP. If they see it is not worms or parasites, you will need to take your dog in for a check up right away, as there are lots of other problems/illnesses that rapid weight loss can be a symptom off. One of the most common would by hyperthyroid.
It is normal you need to give much more food than normal. The process of giving birth and feeding puppies is very draining and uses lots of calories. You can buy special food for nursing bitches.
You need to take your dog in to see your Veterinarian for a good check up to determine that answer. Be sure you dog has been dewormed on a regular basis, if not, bring in a stool sample when you see the Vet. Also be sure to feed your dog a good name brand of dog food, not some cheap generic version.
Take him/her to the vet & have him/her examined.Loss of weight may be a sign of a more serious problem.
well your dog just had puppies and its like when humans have them the pups suck the nutrients out of her when there in her belly. that is why she is so skinny
A vet would be able to do a simple exam, blood work, and possibly X-rays to tell you fairly quickly what is wrong with an older dog that is losing weight.
He/she may be getting old and loosing that weight because she is old.
Take her to a vet. Weight lossis not a good sign, if anything healthy animals should gain weight as they age and their metabolism slows down.
If the animal is eating regularly and it is still losing weight, you should probably take it to the veterinarian as it should not be losing weight. Otherwise, it depends on the animal. Most pets, particularly cats and dogs, gain weight when they are fed more cat or dog food.
There is no patron saint of losing weight.
You should take your dog to the vet right away. Our dog was doing that and we found out she had swallowed something and it was lodged in her intestines. She had to have it surgically removed.
join a sport. be active. you shouldn't worry about losing weight because you are still growing
Worms can cause puppies to lose weight. Your veterinarian can help you.
just remember if it was an old dog maybe it was in pain eg. arthritis so its out of its misery and its in a better place :)
You need to take your dog in to see a Veterinarian immediately. The white gums tell you that your dog is in shock or losing blood somewhere in his or her body. Get to the VET!
Why are you asking on the internet?? Bring your sick dog to a vet!!
What is your dog's weight, and what kind of dog do you have?
Oh boy. That's a pretty old dog - I'd bet that his body is simply starting to break down, unfortunately.
