I have a 94 and it is electronic. You have to remove the gauge assy and the odometer unit is inside. There is a place on the internet http://www.dashusa.com/ford_trucks.htm that can send you one with your current milage already dialed in. They quoted me $275.00 trade in and you have to perform the work. Ignore the Truck part, My cougar and Ford truck odometer failed, and I found this place while researching the truck. I have the same problem, mine just stopped working and it now has 83,548 miles on it....but the speedometer works fine. There is a pair of gears driven off the Speedo cable. One or both of the gears have most likely broken. I have a set on the way. Sorry, haven't changed them yet, so I can't give you details on how-to yet.
