There are, of course, a number of Islamic reformers. One particularly strong group based their reforms on a literal reading of the Quran and strict following of the hadiths. This means that they try to create a society exactly like the society in which the Prophet Mohammed lived 1500 years ago. Into such a society all of the freedoms which technical advances over that time have allowed would be completely forbidden.
However, even moderate Musllims shy away from some of the values of the Western world, especially the United States. Islam's focus on modesty in both men and women would forbid the sexualization and obsession with physical beauty which is a significant feature of American life.

Using the text of the bible to prove the truth of the Bible is a great example of circular logic. However, not every person has learnt to analyse and think logically. Islamic Fundamentalism (Usuliya) is a religious position about how a person should live their life. It concerns personal implementation of the Shari'a law. It is not necessarily violent, but most Fundamentalists (Usuliyin) cannot separate their personal desire to live a puritanical life from their demand that others join them and set up laws requiring a country or the world to adhere to their views. When others resist, preferring to live in democracies or secular states, this prompts the Islamic Fundamentalists to press for change using violence and terrorism.
