Because they are adapted like that for their environment. Four legas help them be able to run fast if they are chasing food or running away from predators. They also need four legs for a better balance because of the uneven environment that most live in. Humans have 2 legs because that is all we need, but when we weren't as evolved we to had four legs to adapt to the environment. We have evolved and 2 of our 4 legs turned into arms because that was more useful for our survival.
