The coyote is native to North America. Despite being extensively hunted, the coyote is one of the few medium-to-large-sized animals that has enlarged its range since human encroachment began. It originally ranged primarily in the western half of North America, but it has adapted readily to the changes caused by human presence and, since the early 19th century, has been steadily and dramatically extending its range. Sightings now commonly occur in a majority of the United States and Canada. Coyotes inhabit nearly every contiguous U.S. state and Alaska. Coyotes have moved into most of the areas of North America formerly occupied by Gray_Wolf, and are often observed foraging in suburban garbage bins.

more coyotes seem to be out these days because of their habitats being destroyed by housing and stores and buildings no no no there are many coyote wolf hybreeds running around central ny , DUE TO mismanagement practices of our state department of conservation ,any thing but conservative ,they have released trapped coyote/wolf hybreeds to kill as many deer as they can and car insureance companys pay the state for wolf reintroduction programs that is how they fund such a lousy deal , for hunters like my self who in the 70s watched as many as 300 deer cross the roads like cows from a feild , now if you see one your lucky , i have hunted this year myself for whitetailed deer i have done this since i was 15 the decline of the deer and cost of liscense to hunt has goone up as the greed to kill off the deer herds people will rely on meat they take from the woods when all hell breaks loose in Washington , now people would starve if they had to survive any horrible clamity of nature or orther New York state DEC program of death , they are looking at killling people with the deer tick and now mosquitos , that's why the stuff in bug spray has been reduced by more than half ,the state woukld rather save a bug than god's created animals like the whitetailed deer that we USED TO HAVE IN CENTRAL NEW YORK many people will say look we have lots of deer the state feels the same way come out to some real state forest and listen at dusk or dawn for the coyote wolf howls that stand the hair on your neck , better yet go camping in that same forest ,but not in any state park just find some state land and use it wisely carefull with fire etc and you can stay 3 days with no permits, deer will be gone in 5 more years tops
