The Apollo program was started by (Democrat) JFK, and canceled as quickly as he could get by with, by Nixon (Republican). Nixon even went so far as to rename Cape Kennedy, "Cape Canaveral". Clearly, he wanted there to be no noticeable trace of the Democrat's accomplishment.
