I'm assuming you are talking about on a car. All vehicles have a service life. Somewhere around 150,000 miles you can expect things to start failing. Things like thermostats, alternators, water pumps and, if the engine hasn't had good care, you may even have an engine failure. If you can get the car cheap enough to avoid high payments, it may not be so bad. I used to drive them all the time and budgeted a certain amount of money just like a car payment to make repairs. if I didn't have repairs that month the money went into the repair fund for when I did need it. It wasn't long before I had pretty reliable transportation without the big payment. If you put 300 to 400 a month into a car, pretty soon it will glow in the dark. Unless it is new. Then it just keeps getting older and after a few years your paying that big payment on something that is starting to wear out.
I have 75k on mine. Its high for the year, but its not a bad thing if you take care of your vehicle and keep up on the maintenance.
