Because Nitric acid is an unstable molecule and a very strong oxidizing agent (as compare to its acidic nature) so it oxidizes the liberated hydrogen into water molecules.

Why hydrogen is liberated when magnesium react with dilute nitric acid unlike other metals where hydrogen is not evolved?

This may due to Magnesium metal has high reactivity and concentration of nitric acid is dilute, thus magnesium reacts with H+ in water/ in nitric acid to give hydrogen

What were the bubbles in the solution when the metals reacted with acids?

Hydrogen gas is liberated in the form of vigorous bubbles when metals and acids react.

Does hydrogen react with metals?

Hydrogen react with metals and hydrides are formed.

What happens when matals react with acid?

when metals react with acid hydrogen gas is liberated . and salt is formed eg; 2Na+2Hcl ------ 2Nacl+H2

What is the differences between the reaction of metals with acids and the reaction of metal carbonates with acid?

When metals react with acids,hydrogen is liberated,(since all acids contain hydrogen) eg:Na2 + H2SO4 -> Na2SO4 + H2 When metal carbonates react with acids carbon dioxide is liberated. eg:Na2CO3 + H2SO4 -> Na2SO4 + H2O + CO2

Why hydrogen is not evolved when a metal react with nitric acid?

Nitric acid is a strong oxidizing agent and its molecule is unstable as compare to nitrogen oxides, on reacting with metals it gives hydrogen and oxygen both so water is produced instead of hydrogen.

What gas do acids form when they react with metals?

Usually hydrogen (H2). Nitric acid usually gives NO or NO2, depending on concentration.

Do acids react with metals that are more or less active than hydrogen to form a compound of the metal and hydrogen gas?

No. Some of the less reactive metals, such as platinum, gold, silver, copper, and rhenium will not undergo this reaction. Copper and silver will react with nitric acid to produce nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a toxic brown gas. Gold and platinum will react with aqua regia, a mixture of nitric acid and hydrochloric acid, in a similar manner. Rhenium will not react with any acid.

What metals cannot displace hydrogen gas from a dilute acid?

all those metals which are present below Hydrogen in the reactivity series like Ag , Cu , Au , Pt ,etc. ^^ He is incorrect. All metals, one or another, will react with some acids to produce Hydrogen Gas. -He mentioned Copper and Silver. Silver and Copper will react with Nitric Acid giving off Hydrogen and NitroDioxide Gas. He mentioned Gold and Platinum. Gold and Platinum will react with Aqua Regia (A mixture of Hydrogen Chloride and Nitric Acid) giving off Nitric Oxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, and Hydrogen gas. All metals will react with FluoroAntimonic Acid, Xenic Acid, or any other super acid to give off hydrogen gas and other gases as well.

Do acids make hydrogen when they react with some metals?

When acids react with metals they can produce hydrogen.

Name some acids that react with metals?

Nitric acid reacts strongly with many metals.

What metals can react with oxygen?

hydrogen
