Best Answer

Because its reactivity is intermediate between many metals, and it is stable in both the ionic form and molecular form , so it can accept as well as can donate the electrons.

What are the characteristics of series electrochemical?

The electrochemical series naturally are stronger reducing agents then hydrogen. They except electrons readily. Metals decrease from top to bottom, and contain positive levels of standard reduction

Why does not silver evolve hydrogen on reacting with dilute sulphuric acid?

it is because, silver lies below hydrogen in electrochemical series. so it cannot reduce the hydrogen and replace it.

Difference between galvanic series and electrochemical series?

Electrochemical series-The position of a given metal in electrochemical series is fixed.there is no info. regarding position of alloys.it tells the relative displacement tendencies.Galvanic series-position may shift.alloys are included.predicts relative corrosion tendencies.

What are electrochemical series and its importance?

THE ELECTROCHEMICAL SERIES TELLS US WHICH METALS ARE MORE ACTIVE CHEMICALLY THAN OTHERS AND WHICH WILL REPLACE OTHERS FROM A SOLUTION, SUCH AS IS USED IN PLATING METALS. THE BIGGEST USE IS IN CREATING BATTERIES (ELECTROCHEMICAL MATERIALS) WHICH OPERATE BECAUSE OF THE DIFFERENCES IN CHEMICAL ACTIVITY BETWEEN TWO METALS. ZINC AND COPPER DIFFER GREATLY IN THEIR CHEMICAL ACTIVITY AND WHEN PLACED IN A SUITABLE ENVIRONMENT( FOR EXAMPLE, PLACED IN AN ACID SOLUTION (LEMON) AND CONNECTED WITH A WIRE OR METER, WILL PRODUCE ELECTRICITY WHICH IS A FLOW OF ELECTRONS. THE ELECTROCHEMICAL SERIES TELLS US WHICH METAL WILL MOST READILY LOSE ELECTRONS TO ANOTHER SUBSTANCE, THEREBY PRODUCING THE HIGHER VOLTAGE OR FLOW OF ELECTRONS.

What is electro-chemical series?

It is a vertical series in which different electrodes/substances are arranged in the increasing order of their REPVs with the standard Hydrogen Electrodes (SHE) / Normal Hydrogen Electrode (NHE) in the middle of the series which is assigned an REPV of 0 voltage.Note- REPV stands for Standard Reduction Electrode Potential Values.

How are standard electrode potentials listed in the Standard Reduction Potentials table?

Electrodes are arranged in the increasing order of their standard reduction potential in the Standard reduction Potential Series. This Series is also known as ELECTROCHEMICAL SERIES.

Why is carbon not found in the electrochemical series?

concerning the absence of carbon on the electrochemical series is for a reason that it can not form salts

What is electromotive series in terms of choosing the suitable electrode in setting up an electrochemical cell?

The electromotive series you are thinking of is called the metals. They are the ones that chooses the suitable electrode in setting up an electrochemical cell.
