The US fought in Korea to stop the Soviet Union from spreading communism. This was between 1950 and 1953. It was a predecessor to the Vietnam war which occurred between 1955 and 1975. Both times the US intervened in order to stop the commmunist states, North Korea and North Vietnam from taking control of the rest of the capitalist democratic states of South Korea and South Vietnam.

Yes. British troops did not fight alongside the American's in the Vietnam war. However, British troops were stationed in South Vietnam on the 13th September 1945. They were charged with restoring French rule over Vietnam. They released French Military units previously arrested by the Japanese, maintained order and were to a drawn into clashes against the Viet Minh in Southern Vietnam. The French may not have been able to establish a foothold in Southern Vietnam and force the Viet Minh out of Saigon without British assistance.
China, France, Japan; in that order.
WWI, WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Wars were fought between NATIONS. No nation is fighting against the country of Iraq. Iraq is a police action (a law enforcement issue) in which law, order, and stability is trying to be restored to that country.
The Vietnamese did not participate in WW2. Lots of dead bodies of Japanese soldiers testify to the participation of the Vietnamese in WW2. Japan invaded "French Indo-China" as it was then called and defeated the French in short order. The Vietnamese were not such a pushover and put up a spirited resistance all through the Japanese occupation.

A peninsula (such as Korea) can be patrolled and controlled by the US Navy (as was done in the Korean War 1950-1953). Vietnam had two countries (officially neutral in the war), Laos & Cambodia bordering N & S Vietnam's left (west) side. The Ho Chi Minh Trail went thru those countries (mostly Laos). The US would have had to involve Laos & Cambodia; WIDEN the war, in order to destroy/occupy the Ho Chi Minh Trail. This action could possibly involve Red China or the Soviet Union. Red China DID ENTER the Korean War when US/Allied forces invaded NORTH Korea during the Korean War. The US did not want to widen the Vietnam War. This is Why Vietnam had to be fought as a "Limited War." Limited by restrictions on Where it could be fought, and How it could be fought.
. Although Vietnam is a poor Asian country, the people of the United States fought there in order to stop the domino effect of the communists. This theory stated, If South Vietnam falls to the Communist, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, India and Pakistan would also fall like dominos. The Pacific Islands and even Australia could be at risk. Basically the war was fought to hold the line against the spread of world Communism. America paid for the war the French fought against Communist Vietnam as a part of the Truman Doctrine and then by the 1950’s became involved when the war flared up again, the war against communism that is.
Officially only Australian and New Zealanders fought in Vietnam, NOT men from Great Britain. ^^^ Wrong British troops did not fight alongside the American's in the Vietnam war. Well, the definition of the word "war" is "A state of open, armed, often prolonged conflict carried on between nation, states, or parties.", so by that definition Vietnam was in fact a war. However, officially in the eyes of the United States government, it was a conflict, because Congress never declared war on Vietnam. In fact, Congress hasn't declared war since 1941, so whenever you hear someone talking of the "war" in Iraq, you should correct them, and if they bring up the definition of "war", note the fact that there is no "nation, state, or party" to be at war with.
