"Al-Qaeda's initial anger towards the U.S. stemmed from their hatred of growing secularism and modernization in the world. The United States was pegged as a symbol of modern growth and revolutionary new ideas during the 20th century in Islam (they also hate us because these terrorist misunderstand their religion), which were contrary to the beliefs of more conservative Islamic groups back then. Current hatred of the U.S. most likely is a result of their retaliation towards terrorists and terrorism and their "War on Terror".

Al Qaeda hates the U.S. because it is seen as the bulwark of Western, that is, non-Islamic civilization (that is, the very center of world secularization and modernization-that is, "anti-Islam."). According to Muslim precepts, beliefs, theology, etc., Islam is, indeed, the "religion of peace." While this bromide is repeated seemingly endlessly, what they do not tell people is this: In Islam, a state of "peace" in the world cannot be attained until the realization of certain circumstances. These circumstances include either the conversion to Islam of all in the world, or marginalization, persecution, and eventual death of all those who would refuse conversion to Islam. Al Qaeda has no reticence in letting everyone know these fundamental (but not 'fundamentalist!") and unchangeable Muslim beliefs ... Al Qaeda feels that the U.S., as the bulwark of Western civilization, is indeed the "Great Satan," as it is the most prominent and powerful country in the world that does not adhere to Islam. Al Qaida feels that if it can neutralize, or lessen, the influence of the U.S., that it will have more success in its "Jihad" to convert the world to Islam.

And, nobody should be fooled by the above "reasons"-the war on terror, or American military presence in Islamic countries - the war on terror could stop tomorrow, and all U.S. military adventures could cease that same day. Al Qaeda would rejoice, but not lay down arms: its objective is an Islamic world ...

But also, the U.S. policies and agreements on its purchase of oil for the past century-which basically was "screw these dinks!," and, "we pay rock bottom minus 50%!" has not endeared the West, nor the U.S. to Arab and other poor countries around the world ...
