North is obvious by a peek at the World Map but a quirk of Geography and Cartography result in the East versus West quandry. Again a peek at a world map confirms the claim to furthest west and is readily confirmed by checking out the Longitude and Latitude of both locations.
How it can also claim a position as the Easternmost point is the RUB between the science of geography and the Politics of the Real World. When a Geographic or International Date Line passes through a scientific point that conflicts with real world needs, then Politics wins over science. Your neighbor across the street should not be living an hour or day away. It is impractible and people convolute science. Move the Line the Cartographer is told and West becomes East (or visa-versa).
Tonga used a modern advertising blitz of "Where Time Begins", and improved their tourism dollar greatly. Others moved their boundaries and the Science had been reversed by Geo-Politics.
