• He was born into a life of luxury but left it when he felt there was more to existence than extravegant consumption
• He attempted a life of severe denial but left it when he found that his own pain and suffering adds nothing to the good of humanity
• He rationally idenified the cause o human suffering
• He independently developed a way fo us to escape suffering (the Eightfold Path)
• He demonstrated the Eightfold Path by living it confirming that anyone can do it
• He spent his life spreading the teaching which would benefit humanity
