Juliet does not threaten her father. That would be unthinkable. She threatens Friar Lawrence with suicide if he doesn't help her. Friar Lawrence's reaction is forced and gives Juliet a sleeping potion to make her seem dead.

It's all about his ego. He promised Paris that she would agree to marry him, and if he now has to go back to him and say, "Sorry, I lied. She won't marry you after all" he will look like a chump. Capulet cannot face that.
