There are 2 probable reasons: 1. There is an analogy to his name (as Clouds are white). Of course there are black clouds, but I am sure Squaresoft cannot be accused of segregation, because 2. His parents are probably white, too (from the Nibelheim scene)... Also - Apart from Cloud's genetic heritage, almost all main characters from Final Fantasy games have been white with blond hair and blue eyes. Examples include Cloud, Tidus, Zidane, Vaan(?) and Marche (from FFTA); exceptions being Squall and the new protagonists of FFXIII. It is also notable that there are only a few dark skinned people in Final Fantasy, the only I can think of currently are Barret and perhaps Kiros. Why would anyone wonder why someone is white? .__. What did you think he was? Spanish? Jeez.
