Why is Donald Trump described as a Thinking Man's Obama?

Donald Trump represents the Founding Fathers ideal of a government leader. Someone who successfully made his way through life in a normal pursuit and enters government service late in life. Barack Obama is a career politician.

His personal demons are public but unfortunately no worse than many others in office. The US Constitution, if followed, provides check and balances to control excesses on public policy. Barack Obama does not follow the spirit of the US Constitution, with constant executive actions, that are overruled in the courts.

Obama and Hillary represent career politicians with no (positive) accomplishments out of (or in) office.

Obama says "You didn't Build That." While Trumps builds things.

Trump mad a fortune in business. Obama made a fortune in government.

Why do people call Donald Trump a Thinking Man's Obama? Because he has successes and failures and is bright enough to tell the difference. Beyond elections based on personal and emotional appeal, Obama only has failures. A foreign policy that is a disaster with the Middle East, Europe, Russia, China, the Philippines, Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, and everywhere else. A domestic policy that had had the slowest recovery since WWII, no growth, doubling the national debt and ObamaCare (the Unaffordable Healthcare Plan). He has increased distrust of the Federal Government at all levels, both domestic and international, politicized government agencies (Dept of Justice, IRS, FBI, DoD, NSA, etc.) far beyond that of even Richard Nixon who left office in disgrace. Most of all this Post Racial President has increased racial tensions.

Perhaps it is not that Donald Trump that is the Thinking Man's Obama; it's everyone else is more honest and thoughtful that Barack Obama. Perhaps Barack Obama is the non-thinking Donald Trump

He isn't, as far as I know. In fact, I cannot imagine anyone calling Mr. Trump by that expression, unless the person was either being sarcastic or acting in the role of a passionate supporter and campaign surrogate (someone like Sean Hannity, for example). By any objective measure, there is no comparison between Mr. Trump and President Obama. Even if you dislike his policies, the fact remains: Mr. Obama is superior in terms of intellect, education, and the ability to communicate in a logical yet eloquent manner. While Mr. Trump is more of a showman and an entertainer, there is no credible evidence that his intelligence is greater than Mr. Obama's, nor that a "thinking man" (in other words, a highly educated person) would regard Mr. Trump as an intellectual. That said, I understand that Mr. Trump has many loyal fans who admire him and believe he is the best candidate; but that does not make him smarter or more erudite than President Obama.

I have not heard that description before -- I wonder if it is a joke. Donald Trump and Obama are similar only in that neither had much experience in federal government before running for president -- however, Obama did have a partial term as US senator and experience in the Illinois legislature before running.
