Banned where?

It's not, as far as I can see, banned. In fact, it has won awards.

The original short story Daniel Keyes later expanded it into a novel of the same title, which was published in 1966. The novel won the Nebula Award for Best Novel in '66.

It was banned, in around the 1960s, but some schools is placed like Texas. It was also banned from some school curriculums, but the bans were lifted quite shortly.

"Flowers for Algernon" has been challenged and banned due to its themes of mental disability, sexual content, and profanity. Some critics argue that the book contains inappropriate content for younger readers, while others believe that it provides valuable insight into the human experience.
