Best Answer

It's not necessarily the 'main' one, but an international agreement was drawn up

almost 200 years ago saying that the Greenwich meridian would be the one where

longitude is zero. So, if you want to make the Greenwich meridian sound important,

you could say that the longitudes on maps, globes, GPS, and at sea are all measured

from it. That's true, but it's really no big deal. It means just as much as saying that

all heights of people are measured from the ground.

Is it true that the main line of longitude is called the greenwich meridian?

You might say that. The thing that makes it the "main" one is the fact that by international agreement, it's the meridian that's accepted as zero longitude. So whenever the longitude of a place is stated, you always know that the number means an angle measured from the "Greenwich Meridian".
