Hermes symbols were a staff or caduceus.
Hermes symbols were a staff or caduceus.
The doctors' staff is the Rod of Asclepius, Asclepius being a Greek god associated with medicine and healing. It has one snake and is not winged. The caduceus of Hermes has two snakes and is winged. In modern times, it is a symbol of commerce.
Apollo desired the flute, so Hermes bartered with Apollo and received his golden wand which Hermes later used as his heralds staff. (In other versions Zeus gave Hermes his heralds staff). (cite from http://www.pantheon.org/articles/h/hermes.html)

I think you mean Hermes (Ερμής in Greek), god of trade and thievery and messenger of the gods, who holds a staff with two small snakes around it, which is eventually the symbol of medicine.
Apollo traded it for Hermes' lyre.
Caduceus' hahahahahhahahahahaha =) =]
A Caduceus is a staff with entwining serpents running its length. In mythology some gods, notably Isis, Hermes, and Mercury are often portrayed holding a caduceus. It is also the symbol often (mistakenly) used for the modern medical profession.
