The barrier is designed to prevent easy access of Palestinians to Israel in order to limit suicide bombings. In this regard, it has proven successful and regions with the barrier have seen a marked decrease in terrorist attacks. However, the barrier has a number of humanitarian costs, like estranging Palestinian families, cutting Palestinian properties in half, limiting Palestinian access to water, and promoting settlement growth. Many Palestinians see it as a way for Israelis to reshape the borders of Israel by taking more Palestinian land.
