He is a good judge because Scout when she said that Judge Taylor was a good judge. I think people misunderstand him a lot. He is a pretty quiet man who doesn't show a lot of emotions on his face or by the way he acts which is actually very helpful to him when in court. I think this comes later in the book, but Judge Taylor did something very good for Tom Robinson regarding his case. Judge Taylor appointed Atticus to be Tom's attorney instead of the usual man. Judge Taylor knew that Atticus would do his very best to represent Tom and argue his case even though it was almost inevitable that Tom would lose just because he was black and the Mayella was white.
