Meilland" or "Peace rose" is one of the most successful cultivars of the tea rose, smuggled out of France by its creator, Francis Meilland, just before the Germans occupied his country in 1940. It received the name Peace in 1945 on the day that Berlin fell to the Russians. It was named "the World's Favorite Rose" in 1976.
