Microsoft Windows was called "windows" as it metaphoricaly opened Windows for your business or personal computing. Why they just didn't call it Microsoft Doors I do not know.
I think that no one really knows, but I think it's because the programs that run in the Operating System are called Windows, which is how they got the name.
