Gaddafi does not believe in the existence of the opposition. He has this crazy and wild megalomania that he believes he is the King of Libya. He said in a speech that "anyone who opposed me is a "rat"". His wild megalomania drives him to go out and order his army and followers to kill the opposition. That and the fear of his greedy wealth going away is also one reason that he chooses to kill protesters. When he witnessed protests against Ben Ali and Mubarak, he lashed at the protesters as "wild, reckless, destroyers of civilizations, and so on". The Arab Spring have ruined him a lot.
Muammar Gaddafi is the leader of Libya and the cause for the uprising. There are also numerous protesters.
When Gaddafi started shooting at protesters in March of 2011, the Arab League had enough of him and decided to temporarily suspend Libya from the Arab League. Gaddafi himself is not a fan of the Arab League and hated almost every Arab leader in the Arab League (except for Bashar Al-Assad of Syria, Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria and Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen, all of whom did not voiced any complaints of Gaddafi shooting at protesters)
