To see if there are more earth sizedplanets in the Milky Way galaxy.
Short answer: No. Long answer: No it was not.
Apollo 11
The Kepler mission is specifically designed to survey a portion of our region of the Milky Way galaxy to discover dozens of Earth-size planets in or near the habitable zone and determine how many of the billions of stars in our galaxy have such planets. Results from the mission will allow us to place our solar system within the continuum of planetary systems in the Galaxy.
Johannes Kepler
Johannes Kepler determined that all planets have elliptical orbits.
The Kepler Space Mission was named after Johannes Kepler. Johannes Kepler was an astronomy. The Kepler Space Mission is a mission to search for a habitable earth like orbiting star.
a nasa mission to find earth like planets
There are lots of planets in the Kepler series. To answer your question, we need to know to which number Kepler you are asking about.
Ceres and Eris are not planets; they are classified as dwarf planets. Eris was discovered in our solar system recently and not by the Kepler mission. Ceres is not "new" either; it was discovered the first day of the 19th. Century. I didn't check the specific "Kepler-" codes, but that looks like planets discovered by the Kepler mission to be orbiting around other stars.
There were 2 astronauts on each Project Gemini mission.
One benefit to me about the Kepler mission, is that we won't always have to wonder if there is any other life on any other planet? I think that is something that we have at least wondered once if there is life on other planets. SO I think with this mission we will finally have proof of if there is life on other planets.
The Kepler mission started in March 2009, so it is unlikely that is has found anything so far. 4/5/2009
NASA has launched the Kepler mission to search for new planets.
Kepler's three laws are important because they are used to predict the positions of planets years into the future. That is a help to navigators, astronomers and people planning space voyages.
Johannes Kepler was one of the most important scientist in the field of astronomy. He was the founder of "celestial mechanics", having been the first to explain planetary motion. In addition to his theories on the structure of the Universe, Kepler made important headway into the field of optics, his publication Stereometrica Doliorum formed the basis of integral calculus, and he also made important advances in geometry. In addition to these major breakthroughs, Kepler also explained how the tides were influenced by the Moon, with help from: http://www.johanneskepler.com/
The Mercury program
The first large space telescope was the Hubble, and it's probably still the most famous one. But a LOT of the new and exciting work being done is using the Kepler Space Telescope, a device which was specially designed to search for planets around neighboring stars.
