Although Ohio, and other "mid-western" states are physically located in the norheast or north-central United States, their geographic position is determined not by actual geography, but by the perceptions of New Yorkers. Since they condister New York to be the center of the universe, anything to the west is "western" and differs only in its distance from New York.
