They currently hold the office of the Governor, both US Senate seats, 12 of the 19 US House seats and a slight majority in the state House of Representatives. However the Republicans have a commanding grip (30 to 20) on the State Senate and the Office of Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General. It should be pointed out that US Senator Arlen Specter crossed the aisle in 2009 and that Bob Casey, Jr. was not elected to the US Senate until the 2006 race when he won the seat of third term senate hopeful Rick Santorum of the Republican Party.

It is also true that President Obama won Pennsylvania in the 2008 race but that does not indicate a solid shift of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from Red State to Blue.
