your car is overheating and cutting out because it is starting to sieze up inside. Remove your thermostat and put it in a pot of water and make sure the thermostat is covered completely then bring to the boil and keep it boiling, you should start to see the thermostat opening up if it doesn't replace it with a new one there about ten quid. if it doesnt open whats happening is your car is holding on to the hot water that is surrounding the head of your engine the thermostat should open and let this out at the same time replacing it with cool water. so if its not opening the engine just keeps getting warmer and that can be costly.
