I think you mean 'Why was Tennessee so important in the Civil War?'
Tennessee was one of the Upper South states that were somewhat divided in their loyalties. When it came to the vote, it joined the Confederacy, but the Eastern part of the state was generally pro-Union.
The first Northern victories of the war came in Tennessee, where the local commander Henry Halleck was rewarded with the job of General-in-Chief, and his subordinate U.S. Grant came to prominence as a leader of persistence and drive. Thanks to Grant, the Mississippi was liberated and the war in the West ended.
Meanwhile the Army of the Cumberland under Rosecrans fought two battles at Chattanooga, before being handed over to Sherman, who sent part of it to Nashville, where George Thomas made good use of it, sending a Confederate army into a headlong rout for the only time in the war.
