Tigerstar became evil for several reasons. One of them is probably because he was the weakest of his litter, which made him desparate to prove himself strong when he was still a kit. Later he was apprenticed to Thistleclaw, who was an aggressive warrior who influenced Tigerstar.
Actually that isn't true-he was in fact the strongest and only surviving kit of his litter. He was apprenticed to Thistleclaw, though, and Thistleclaw did play a major role in his becoming evil. Also he had a large amount of ambition and a ruthlessness that allowed him to make use of that ambition.
