Washington state is called the evergreen state because it's high rainfall rate makes the area west of the Cascade Mountains a temperate rain forest. Another reason is because of the state's numerous national parks, forests and protected wildlife areas.

Washington State is known for its tall stately pines, also called evergreens. The State nickname comes from Washington State's forests of evergreen trees.
