After World War I, lots of tension built up between the European countries, the United Nations was founded in a desperate attempt to stop future wars.

Adolf Hitler was the main contributor to WWII. Using his oratory talent Hitler exploited Germany's Great Depression and the Treaty of Versailles, which were caused by WWI.

The German's loved him and by the time people realised what was actually happening, Hitler had too much power, he invaded Poland and the war was declared on the 3rd of September, 1939. (Two days after the invasion.)

World War II is considered to be an external conflict because it was based in Europe, but non-European countries such as America got involved as well as Japan's slight alliance with Germany and attacking America and Australia. Australia, New Zealand and America fought back, this is why it was a World War, it is external because the contributing factors and most of the war was fought in Europe and in hindsight, didn't really need to spread to Oceania/Asia and North America.
