when Steam locomotives were phased out in 1959 the Gas Turbines took over. When these trains went through the canyons and plains of Utah and Wyoming any bird that got close was automatically fried by the jet engine. if you saw Green River, Wyoming after a train went by you would see a lot of dead birds next to the tracks.
