There are many advantages to using a digital camera. Here are a few: A digital camera let's you know right away whether you've shot the photo as you want it. With film you have to wait until the film is processed to know whether the picture turned out the way you intended. A digital camera does not require the expense of film, processing, and printing (which adds up to a lot of money if you shoot photos often). A ditigal camera lets you save photos electronically, which takes less space than the prints or slides you get from a film camera. The electronic images from a digital camera can be e-mailed to others. If you use a film camera, you have to turn the slide or print into a digital format before you can e-mail it. Film cameras give a fixed image, it is not possible to tamper with the negative or slidert after processing, so film images may be relied on in court evidence. Digital cameras retain information in their internal memories even after formatting (I know, I have tried it!), so very secret areas have to have their own dedicated cameras which cannot be used outside those areas or film has to be used. In some cases, film images are more stable than digital images for long term storage. Some early forms of digital storage cannot now be read because the drives are no longer available.
