It's absorbed by capilliary action into the weave of the fabic, and into the threads from which that's woven. When you hang the towel up afterwards, the water then evaporates from the towel.

Try 91% Isopropyl Alcohol on a paper towel. Put a dry paper towel behind the stain, then blot it with the wet paper towel on the other side. Do NOT rub the stain or you might spread it.

If it is a rectangle or square. Place it vertically on a paper towel folded a few times to act as a wick to pull the water out. Replace the paper towel as needed.
