The key is the "display" or graphical user interface (GUI, or goo-ee). The display has a "picture" with little icons on it or hyperlinks or other "active buttons" that we can use by positioning the cursor ("pointer") on them and "activating" them. The mouse lets us do exactly that. By simple manipulation, we can get our cursor on an icon, link or whatever and "click" it to open an application, go to a previously selected and identified location via a hyperlink, or the like.
