Why isn't my hermit crab molting?

Hermit crabs molt when they feel the need to. Nothing is wrong with your crab if it hasn't molted. :)

What happens before the crab is caught in the dish called soft shelled crab?

A soft shell crab, often referred to as a softie, is a recently molted crab. Usually it's a Blue crab that is served as a soft shell dish. The crab will shed it's old shell when it has grown out of it. The new shell will be soft but only for a couple of days.

Can a hermit crab die from its shell breaking?

Congratulations! No need to rename it. It's the same hermit crab. It molted it's old skin! This means your hermit crab is perfectly healthy and can grow! Make sure you have a slightly bigger shell though. Leave it alone until it walks around and is very healthy.

What is the Hard protective shell that shields the crab's body called?

Most people are saying shell, but they're wrong! The correct answer is internal/external skeleton depending on if it is molted or not.

What does it mean when your hermit crabs are pale?

It means your crab has molted. (sheaded its exoskeleton, like a snake) Or possibly it dosen't have enough cellulose in its diet. I recomend Japanese Red Maple leaves, Irish moss, or if you can't get your hands on those I reccomend eggs.

What happens to a hermit crab's shell when it is molted?

Answer: It is eaten by the shedder for calcium to harden the new shell. The parts that remain (if uneaten) are quickly moved away from the lobsters' burrow so as NOT to attract predators. Other sea creatures will quickly consume shedded lobster shells, so you will never find a shedded lobster exoskelaton on the beach.

What is wrong your hermit was doing fine climbing the log drinking water and going abt but today he is on his side not moving at all he is not hidden in his shell just sitting out not moving at all?

Pick up the crab, if it droops out of its shell kind of it probably molted and that is its exoskeleton and it is just a hollow discard. Look behind it and the actual crab will be there. Wait a couple days, keep giving it food and water but if you eventually start to smell a strong fishy odor the crab has died. Its probably just a molt.

How many offspring do crabs have?

Female crabs will only mate once, immediately after they have their terminal moult. Females carry the male's sperm around with them for up to two years. The females can fertilize several batches of eggs with the stored sperm during this time.

Whats a molting hermit crab?

it means that it is time for it to grow and will change it's shell when it is done. If you see the shedded exoskeleton, DO NOT REMOVE IT because the hermit crab will be hungry and will eat the exoskeleton for calcium. my hermit crab is eating his molted claw right now... kinda wierd though

Is crab in the same family as shrimp I'm newly and severely allergic to shrimp. I discovered ten years ago my allergies began to change. I'm wondering if its safe to eat crab?
