If you have wireless devices, computers, HDTV's, Bluray players, X-Box/PS3, etc, then you would need a wireless router to control all the devices. If you don't have a wireless computer or devices then you wouldn't need one.
Seeing as how most devices are going wireless to get rid of the ethernet cord being routed all over the place it's nice to have one.
