A sewing bee is a social event , where participants either work on a sewing project together (such as a large quilt, or blocks of knitting for a blanket) or individual projects.

"Bee" is a term that dates back to colonial America, which describes people working together in a social group. According to research, the word probably comes from dialectal been or bean (meaning "help given by neighbors").

A sewing bee is a social event centered around sewing. Participants either work on a project together (such as a large quilt, or blocks of knitting for a blanket) or individual projects.

The "bee" term originates from the fact that bees are social insects, and so the word 'bee' was used for gatherings of neighbors working together for the common good (or for an individual).
