Click on the advanced features/functions option. The name varies with the search engine. There you should find a user friendly interface with options like "exclude these words". Boolean algebra is no longer needed, but can be used for advanced searches.
The only reason someone would use an advanced search is if they didn't find what they were looking for with the first search. First searches usually turn up what a searcher is looking for and rarely is the advanced search option used.
