Allowing for the very likely case of a mis-spelling in your question, I will assume you mean "menthol", which is in the cigarette paper in menthol cigarettes. Some smokers prefer the menthol sensation - simple as that. The word "methanol" in your question is methyl (wood) alcohol, and is not in cigarettes in any more than minute trace amount, if that. There are supposedly 4,000 different compounds in cigarette smoke in "minute, trace amounts".

Ammonia used to boost the impact of nicotine in manufactured cigarettes. Ammonia adds flavor to the cigarette. Tobacco companies discovered that adding ammonia to the cigarette manufacturing process helps convert bound nicotine molecules in tobacco smoke into free nicotine molecules. This process is known as freebasing.

Yes the nicotine in electronic cigarettes goes into your system... though not as quickly as with traditional cigarettes. The reason traditional cigs go into your system is because the nicotine is free based with ammonia. Ammonia + the 1000's of other chemicals are what make cigarettes way more dangerous than e-cigs...which have no known harmful effects.
