There are two particular foods that are iconic to the Day of the Dead, Pan de Muertos and sweet little sugar skulls. Both of those are typical Day of the Dead foods, featured in every event and known by most people. There are more obscure food offerings, such as candied pumpkin, chocolate skulls and coffins, and a hot cup of masa gruel called atole. Beyond that what you serve to the dead during the day of the dead all depends on what they liked when they were alive, be it junk food or a roast meal.
