The big C is used at the start of a sentence. The small c is used in the middle. There is no difference

A calorie with a small c is the amount of heat energy that is required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of pure water from 14 to 15 C.

A Calorie with a capital C, or kilocalorie is the amount of heat it takes to raise the temperature of a lire of water by one degree centigrade

What is the difference between calories with a capital c and calories with a lower case c?

A calorie is a unit of energy. We tend to associate calories with food but they apply to anything containing energy. a Calorie is associated with food. They are actually kilocalories, so 1 Calorie= 1000 calories

How many Calories is 268.5 calories?

"Calories are calories. The answer is still 268.5."Not necessarily. TECHNICALLY Calories with a capital "C" is, as I'm pretty sure I remember from science class...equivalent to 1,000 calories with a lower case "c". BUT on things such as the Nutritional Facts on food items, you should treat it all the same. Perhaps the idiots who print those nutritional facts don't know the difference between Calories and calories?? There is no telling. ;)So TECHNICALLY the answer to your question is 268,500 calories. BUT if you are asking about something related to foods...then yes, the answer is still 268.5.CommentThe original answer is correct. Capitalising the word 'calorie' doesn't make it 1000 calories -that would be a kilocalorie.

How do you convert Nutritional Calories to calories?

Multiply by 1000. Food Calories (note the capital letter) are 1 kcal (note the small letter).

Are wine calories worse than food calories?

Calories are Calories. The dietary Calorie is spelled with a capital "C" indicating that it is, in fact a kilo-calorie. With food you get vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, protein and fats. With wine, you get alcohol and carbohydrates.

A bag of chips contains 140 calories in 13 chips how many kilocalories would i eat if i ate 26 chips?

"Kilocalories" and "calories" are interchangeable words (when you are talking about lower-case "c" for calories.. Calories with a capital "C" is equal to 1000 calories or 1 kilocalorie). So, for this example, if 13 chips is 140 calories, and you eat 26 chips, you will eat 280 calories, also known as 280 kilocalories. So again... 1 Calorie = 1000 calories = 1 kcal

How many calories equals how many joule?

1 calorie = 4.184 joules So, 200calories * (4.184joules/1calorie) = 200*4.184 joules= 836.8 joules Since the category of this question is nutrition, I will point out that "calories" on food are actually "Calories". Notice the capital "c". It makes a difference. "Big c" calories are actually calories * 1000! A 100 Calorie snack isn't 100*4.184 = 418.4 Joules, it is 100,000 *4.184 = 418,400 Joules!

What is a calorie compared to a Calorie?

"Calorie" (with a capital "C") is common notation for a "kilocalorie" which equals 1000 calories (with a lowercase "c"). Since "calories" are too small a unit of measurement, nutrition labels give caloric content in "Calories".

What is used to measure enegry?

Energy is measured in Joules or calories. One calorie is equal to 4.184 Joules, not to be confused with kilocalories or Calories (with a capital C) which, in concordance with the metric system is equal to 4184 Joules.

How many Calories per gram of oil?

Original entry: 100000000000 calories Correction by thm:- The original figure is way over the top, in fact it is overstating the calories by more than 11 million times... The amount of calories in a given fat or oil varies slightly according to which particular type it is, but all of them have about 9,000 calories [note the small "c" here]. Note that nutritionists and the food industry normally refer to kilocalories [kcal], and usually write this as "Calories" [i.e. with a capital "C"]. Hence in common parlance, 1g of fat has about 9 Calories.

What is the difference between kcal and cal?

No there's not. Except on the back of food packets it is called Kcal's instead of calories. This answer is wrong. A food, or dietary Calorie is equal to 1000 calories, which is 1 Kcal (kilocalorie). A capital C is also used to designate a Kcal, or 1000 small calories. A small calorie is designated by a small c, and is equal to the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 cubic centimeter of water by 1 degree centigrade at standard atmospheric pressure. The small calorie is most often used as a measure of heat in sciences such as Chemistry. This term is slowly being replaced using joules. See Calorie and joule on Wikipedia.
