So far i have 2 hypothesis:

1) oncology (the branch of medicine concerned with the study and treatment of tumors) and when a crab pinches human it causes tumors

2) crab louse: a louse that infests the pubic region of the human body that if left untreated could probably cause a tumor

Cancer the crab, plays a minor role in the Twelve Labors of Hercules. While Hercules was busy fighting the multi-headed Lernaean Hydra, the goddess Hera/Juno, who hated her step-son, sent the Crab to distract him. Cancer tried to kill Hercules and grabbed onto the hero's toe with its claws. In turn Hercules crushed the crab with his foot. Hera, grateful for the little crustacean's heroic but pitiful effort, gave it a place in the sky; but none of its stars were bright because the crab had failed to accomplish its given task

Who named cancer the crab?

If you mean "why is the crab in the zodiac named Cancer", then Cancer is derived from the Latin word for crab. The word for crab in some Latin languages is quite similar to Cancer, such as "cangrejo" in Spanish. The ancient Greeks used the word karkinoma (" creeping ulcer" ) from karkinos the crab, for the disease of cancer. Later the Romans used their own word for crab, cancer, beside the borrowed form carcinoma.
