You present a very valid question. Why are taxes not taught in schools? Taxes are an important part of every Americans lives. Not only are they legally required but not paying them can land a person in deep deep trouble.
In theory a Public School does offer tax knowledge but it must be sought by the student. If you've ever seen Harry Potter a valiant quote stands out, "Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask." You will usually need to see your guidance counselor so that they can direct you to the appropriate class or after-school service. Many High Schools offer off-site tax assistance for students.
Taxes are taught when you take courses in accountancy which you can take privately or in college, they take up too much time if they were taught in a regular high school.
