Conjugate is a generic term for two things joining together for a purpose.
In Biology conjugation occurs when two bacteria or cells come together temporarily to exchange genetic material. The word is also used in chemistry to indicate two materials being combined so that the newly created combined material is easier to identify or isolate.
With animals and people, it also means joining together to exchange genetic material, which is another was to say sexual reproduction.
The conjugation is considered to be a sexual process because it is exchanging genetic material. The exchange causes genetic variation.

there is no gametes. that is why it cannot be considered sexual reproduction

I am studying Microbiology in school currently. According to my understanding, conjugation is not a form sexual reproduction, instead, it is asexual reproduction. Reason being, conjugation only involves transfer of genetic information which is the same as sexual reproduction which involves the fusion of garmetes (sex cells)/equal exchange of genetic material. Hope my answer is helpful. But now, I have a question. Why is conjugation considered a form reproduction when it does not even produce a new offspring?
levon cooper Conjugation Maybe
It is called bacterial conjugation, this is not sexual reproduction, since no exchange of gamete occurs.
Conjugation does not differ from reproduction as it one of the ways of sexual production. This is where the male and female gametes combine for purposes of reproduction.
conjugation...
Conjugation is a primitive form of sexual reproduction since two parent cells are involved.
