Copper is very important for computers to work. It is used in building the integrated circuits, chips and the printed circuit boards of the computer alone. The IBM (International Business Machines) planned to use copper in computer chips instead of aluminum because this will make the computers cheaper and also allow the computers to make faster calculations.
Copper is also used as a conductor of electricity. Nearly all electrical devices rely on copper wiring because copper is inexpensive and highly conductive. The reason why copper is a good conductor is because there are lots of free electrons that can carry the flowing current well.
Copper is also uses in currency. The American penny used to be 95% copper with 5% either being zinc or bronze. At one point the penny had changed into zinc-plated steel, but because the steel was magnetic it kept getting stuck in vending machines. So then they changed the penny's core to zinc and coated it with copper.
