A typical Jewish education system had three houses of education.

1. was called the house of book

this was the ages between 4-10

The rabbi taught the books and memorization

2. Was called the house of learning ages 11-16 or 17

Rabbi taught students Jewish history, art of question, oral traditions etc.

3. Was called the House of Study 17 - 30

Now not everyone was "Good enough" to make it this far, you would have to be the best of the best to be a disciple in Jesus Days.

The Rabbi would come to you and basically do an interview with the student and see if the student would be able to do and become like the Rabbi.

If the student was not qualify then The Rabbi would sent him back to his house to carry on the family trade. Now if the Student was qualify then the Rabbi would say to the student "Come Follow me"..... So that being said Jesus calls 12 men that were not qualify because they were not students to begin with but some were fishermen, tax collectors, assassins, etc. Because someone told them they didn't qualify..... But Jesus Discipleship is a spin.

Jesus Shows anyone can be a disciple as long as they deny themselves and do what he does just be willing to do what the Rabbi does.....
