The Dodo had no natural predators, and that being the case, it had never learned fear of other animals. When humans found the Dodo, it didn't hide, and certainly couldn't fly away. So, they were over hunted, and what wasn't hunted, was killed by the species that the pioneers of the day brought to the small island it inhabited, such as dogs, cats, pigs, and even rats. Not only did they kill the Dodo in large numbers, but they cut the forest down and burned it, in order to make farm land. The Dodo is a prime example of what can happen to any species when humans don't pay attention to the ecosystems they alter. Because the Dodo was killed off before anyone thought to consider the importance of what they were doing to the island and all the species that lived on it. The Dodo can serve as the wake up call for many areas, undergoing the same type of thoughtless development. Plus the Dodo bird is a valuable part of our history, we need to learn as much as possible from our part mistakes, to make sure we don't repeat them.
